Robert Phillip Kreider, 58, of Conestoga, was reported as having difficulty breathing at Lancaster County Prison around 5:57 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, according to a media alert from the prison.

Medical staff examined Kreider before calling 9-1-1, officials said. Emergency medical services transported him to Lancaster General Health Penn Medicine, and his family was notified of his hospitalization by the warden.

The prison released Kreider from custody while he was at the hospital, citing the practice of removing custody restrictions for inmates receiving end-of-life care to allow greater family access, the statement said.

Lancaster County Prison checked on Kreider’s condition daily and was informed of his death on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025.

Kreider had been incarcerated since Oct. 4, 2024, on charges including DUI, use and possession of drug paraphernalia, public drunkenness, and a parole violation, according to officials.

The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office is investigating the cause and manner of death, which will be disclosed in a forthcoming report.
